The Learning Impact Awards recognize the most impactful use of technology in support of learning worldwide. Each year, the IMS Executive Strategic Council selects award finalists by identifying examples of products and services that address the most significant challenges facing global education. At the 2012 Learning Impact Conference, held in Toronto, Ontario, May 14-17, a panel of global experts ranked the finalists. As a top-two finalist, the Desire2Learn and NYCDOE submission was awarded the top-level Platinum Learning Impact Award.
Desire2Learn was named the 2012 Business of the Year by the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. The Business of the Year Award recognizes an organization that makes an exceptional contribution to the business community through involvement and leadership, and acts as a role model in the community. Desire2Learn was among a number of businesses nominated for the award by members of the business community, with the winner being announced February 16 at the 2012 Business Excellence Awards Gala.
Desire2Learn was named among the Best 50 Small and Medium Employers in Canada. This is the second consecutive year that Desire2Learn has been named in this national study, having been placed on the 2011 list as well. To derive a complete picture of corporate culture and employee satisfaction, the study is composed of three separate surveys. The Employee Opinion Survey is the study's primary tool, and measures employee engagement. Those results are then compared with the Leadership Team Survey to assess the alignment of the employees' and leaders' goals. The final component is the Human Resources Survey completed by the company's HR team.
The prestigious MarCom Platinum Award is presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding entries in the Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals (AMCP) competition. Platinum winners are recognized for their excellence in terms of quality, creativity, attention to detail, and resourcefulness. The Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Technology Awards are presented by Brandon Hall Group, a leading research firm in training and development. The Learning Technology Awards program showcases product innovations for their creation and management of learning, talent, and performance.
The Best Advance in Technology for Learning Analytics or Reporting category looks for functionality related to collecting learning data, querying data, creating reports, visualizing data, and comparing variables and data sets. The role of the technology in helping administrators make sense of data and understand the effectiveness of their learning services is a key criterion of the award.

The primary requirement to be named a Best Employer is high "employee engagement" - a measure of how positively employees feel about their employer, how likely they are to stay, and how committed they are to doing their utmost to achieve business objectives. The average engagement score for Best Employer organizations of all sizes was 80 per cent; the average for other organizations participating in the two studies was 59 per cent.

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB), one of the world's leading advocates for Internet access by blind Americans, has now twice (2010 & 2011) awarded the Gold Level NFB-NVA Certification to Desire2Learn for Desire2Learn Learning Environment.
Desire2Learn has made a pledge of support for the National Federation of the Blind’s (NFB) Nonvisual Web Accessibility program. Through this program, Desire2Learn has an ongoing commitment to annually test and certify Learning Environment against the NFB's Gold Level Nonvisual Access standards. We believe this is an important way of demonstrating our ongoing commitment to building inclusive design into our research and development practices.

A Best in Category Award for Learning Management has been awarded based on the results of the 2010 IMS Learning and Education Technology Satisfaction and Trends (LearnSAT) survey. Desire2Learn is the recipient of 1st Place for Learning Management Systems (LMSs).
For the 2010 competition, only 12 awards were made for "Best in Category". It is the only award where the end-user institutions and school districts can express their satisfaction with the vendors. The survey, conducted by the IMS Global Learning Consortium, in cooperation with Campus Technology magazine, is unique, for an open web-based survey, in its qualification process of the respondents and cross-check to eliminate any vendor responses or "ballot box stuffing".
The LearnSAT report, and underlying research, is conducted to provide level of satisfaction information in the use of technology to support teaching and learning to a new and rapidly evolving marketplace. Through the LearnSAT report, those responsible for implementing and supporting solutions have additional information as to the level of satisfaction expressed by current clients to supplement that supplied by vendors.
